Section E When medication is being started

Introduction

At the point of starting medication, any issues in Sections C and D should have been fully explored and a trial of medication will have been agreed. It can be a quick process from medication being suggested for someone with a learning disability, autism or both, to them starting to take the medication. If your relative is starting to take psychotropic medication, you may also find the information in Section C useful. This can tell you about:

• How to find accurate information about a medication;
• Checks that should be carried out; and
• Alternatives to medication that could be tried alongside the medication the person has started.
